CULTIVATION

A contrast between industry, nature, and the people that affect these relationships,

Understanding the function of representation gives us insight into how objects and images can change but represent the same. Activating the senses and dissolving the boundaries between them creates recognition in the observer to their experience; The senses not only become the medium for interpretation but structures the representation of the imagery internally and externally. The warmth from the light in combination with the imagery activates and dissolves the boundaries of our senses, internally and externally. Our minds become clear to the models of our experience, and the relationships we affect. Each time I show the object, I will take a new photograph of it in the same space it’s being shown, to replace the previous print. Simulating a new object of the same content. Combining space and time, further representing itself as a copy.

The patchwork canvas shifts perspective through sensory activation, to help filter ou current perception of nature and our relationship. This object is meant to contrast our industry that works closest with our environment, the Agriculture industry; And the people that affect this relationship.

This object was created by photo transfer onto fabric, then hand sewing the fabric sheets into the bean sack as it’s backing. I used various types of material to connect and direct the viewers visual experience.
